In 1901, Enrique Granados founded an academy
for the formation and perfection of pianists. His intention was
to transmit the technique, especially in pulsation and in use
of the pedal, which allowed him to obtain the sonority and style
that so characterized him.
After his sudden death, in 1916, it was his pupil and collaborator
in the pedagogic task of the academy, Frank Marshall, who to
ok over the running of the school and incorporated other musical
disciplines.
An extraordinary generation of pianists and pedagogues was formed, thanks
to which our country has acquired a solid prestige in all mus ical
environments.
In 1959 Alicia de Larrocha became responsible for the continuity of the
Academy. During her long career as a soloist ,she has delegated her position
as Director of Studies to Juan Torra, Mercedes Roldós and Carlota
Garriga successively.
The pianistic tradition of Granados, in technique as well as in style,is more
than 100 years old, and the influence it has had on the art of the piano is evident.
